Weight Loss Testimonials From Our Clients

Christmas 2004, my sister took my camera from my tight gripping fingers and snapped! There you go, now you have a picture of you too.

Well I had no idea the reaction I would have to seeing myself. I knew I was getting heavy but I was totally lost as to how I could correct this. I knew of people that gained more then they lost when they went on those eat our food programs.

Here I was a fairly intelligent person, without the slightest clue as to what and how much to eat.

I lucked in when my niece was referred to Dr. Bishop by her own doctor. This inspired trust in me. The fact that I could see her becoming more and more beautiful and thinner every time I saw her made me ask, “Do you think I could do this? I have to do something!” I could not look to my future as a fat person. That was just not a future I was prepared to have.

On February 19, 2005 I walked in the door to see smiling faces greet me. There were no feelings of guilt or any blame. I was welcomed with open arms, minds and hearts. I was to experience the Dr. B Family [which is what it feels like].

At 5'2" I weighted 180.5 pounds! This program is not complicated just to make it seem more important or confusing. It’s simplified to the finest point of understanding. Food Journals and weighing myself have become as routine as waking up in the morning. I love having control over myself.

For the past year or more, I have stabilized around 137 - 140. I wanted to stay and feel it out, kind of test the waters shall we say.

I’m not saying that I have not fallen off or gotten frustrated at times, not with the weight loss but with my attitude. The Bishop family is always there, ready to listen to me and always offering support and guidance.

Taking control of what I eat and how I look gives me the strength I need in my life. Recently I felt I was losing control. The ounces were creeping up. In a desperate attempt I called and asked for a mental shaking. Dr. B and I spoke, he asked questions until I arrived at my own solution. I did not lose my way, but instead found more strength. This team enables us to have the best we deserve. I am a life member of this family, for that I am totally thankful to all of them.

Today I weigh 131.4 and am a very happy person.

Well

This has been quite the journey. I can’t even imagine having done this with anyone else but Dr.Bishop and the Weight Management Clinic. I had tried every diet and program the city had to offer. I really felt I had tried but nothing was taking the pounds off. Not one ounce. I would constantly lose and regain within a week.

I needed a plan that was tailored to my needs. So when Dr. Bishop challenged me to “commit” to the program, I took on the challenge and never looked back.

I had an incredible amount of weight to lose, well over 100 pounds…so the task ahead looked pretty grim, but I just took one week at a time.

I wish I could describe everything I went through but that would take up the whole website. I just want to say that I lost all the weight…it wasn’t easy, Dr. Bishop never told me it was going to be…I guess I just assumed that, but he never gave up on me, even when, at times, I tended to give up on myself.

The nurses were great. They gave me tips and suggestions every week and when I joined the “Bishop Walkers”, the weight came off a lot faster.

Dr. Bishop introduced me to an active lifestyle. (I called him Dr. Doug, as sort of Canada’s version of Dr. Phil, only better).
After being morbidly obese for over 30 years, I knew a bit about negative thinking and disappointment and discouragement, and I was even turned away from a diet program because I was a binge eater. I was very disillusioned.

I have great empathy for people just starting the weight loss process. But if they are with Dr. Bishop, and the Weight Management Clinic, then they are in good hands. When I see others struggling with their weight I wish I could tell them about Dr. Bishop but maybe they will read this.

Dr.Bishop gave me a well thought out diet plan, he gave me suggestions for slowly adding physical activity, he gave me tips on changing my way of thinking, he gave me support and encouragement, but most of all…he gave me hope…!!!!

You CAN do it...

That is not just a catchy slogan, it is true, you can do it…I did.

Thank you Dr. Bishop

After losing about 200 lbs and moving to a maintenance program, it is very clear to me that Dr Bishop has developed a very effective weight management program based on the integration of nutrition, fitness and motivation.

Weight management requires a long term, well supported commitment in order to work. Each individual is different and needs a continually changing process of information and feed-back to sustain motivation. The program does not promise miracles in a brief time period. It does provide nutritional information and fitness suggestions that lead to steady weight loss through choice of a better life style.

An important safety consideration is that while some degree of stress and health changes occur during the program – I presented symptoms of gout and later Parkinson’s disease for example – the strong professional medical knowledge of the team will help to identify any health issues that may come up.

In brief, the program works because it provides clients the right information at the right time from a strong and professional team. No fads, drama or false promises.

Managing My Weight

As background, I am an over-sixty year old male who lost more than seventy pounds, stabilized at two hundred pounds and have managed to keep it around that level for quite some time now, thanks to what I learned from Dr. Bishop and his Associates. This is the weight I was in my teen years when I played competitive sports and I currently don’t take any medication.

I am not going to lie to you, food is good, I like to eat and drink, it is a continuous battle and I cheat but never quit. However, staying focused on what foods are healthy to eat, coupled with exercise helps me a great deal.

I am continuously challenged by good food, such as buffets at business functions, golf tournaments, receptions, while traveling on vacation, etc., but I am selective in what I eat. I mainly stick to meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, legumes, green salads and fruit and skip the potatoes, rice, pasta dishes and fried foods. When it comes to desserts I do treat myself, but with moderation.

When eating at home I generally take charge of preparing what I eat, mainly because “I” and no one else is responsible for my wellbeing. Therefore, frequently my wife and I don’t eat the same meals. This is especially so when I see my weight creeping up and I have to take control of it by going back to the basics I learned at Dr. Bishop’s Clinic. Just a few days of sticking to the basics will bring me back to where I want to be. Generally, during this time I tend to eat more fish along with vegetables, legumes and/or salads. Furthermore, I don’t skip any meals and make sure I have a snack between meals. One thing I must confess is that I don’t generally drink enough water on a daily basis and if I did I am sure it would make it easier for me. However, I do drink about four cups of herbal tea daily.

I often hear people say they don’t like fish. Well this is what I say to that, “get over it” and be creative in how to spice it up and cook it the way you like it, because it is one of the best and easiest meal to prepare. For example, canned tuna or salmon mixed with cottage cheese and seafood sauce makes the basis for a very tasty sandwich; a piece of fish cooked ten to fifteen minutes in a covered frying pan in lemon juice/sauce along with vegetables and, or legumes makes a delicious meal. It is that simple.

Regarding exercise, in the summer I play lots of golf and walk the course 99% of the time. This is when I do drink lots of water, especially on hot days. When not golfing I look for what needs to be done around the house that can be considered exercise and I do it. It may include mowing or fertilizing the lawn, clipping the hedge, raking leaves, cleaning and vacuuming the house and cars, etc. In the winter I join the local Community gym and spend a minimum of one hour of steady exercise about four times a week. I also do my own snow clearing which includes a four car driveway and often I also do my neighbours. Moreover, I like to take the bus to work in the winter which requires walking to/from the bus stop and when I miss the bus, which I often do, I keep on walking to the next stop until I see the bus coming. The key is keeping active whenever I have the chance.

About drinking, I mainly drink wine, beer or scotch. However, I found that, mainly when I drink wine or scotch it makes me feel like eating even though I am not hungry. Then, when I subsequently learned that alcohol can misguide the brain to make one eat, I decided on the following. Since I make my own wine in the basement of my house it is hard to avoid it, however, I try to just have it on weekends at dinner time. When it comes to scotch, I just buy it for special occasions. The way I look at it is that, besides not driving me to eat it also saves me money, both a good thing.

In closing let me tell you that, if I can do it, any one else can do it too, and it helps me a great deal to remind myself from time to time about the following:

• think healthy, not skinny;
• no one but myself is responsible for my wellbeing;
• apply the basics when necessary to get back on track;
• be creative and simple with meals;
• keep active and exercise;
• avoid items that lead to excessive eating; and
• no one ever said it would be easy, cheat but don’t quit.

Yours sincerely,

- E.P.

A few years ago, after trying several weight loss programs, I went to Dr. Bishop's Weight Management Clinic. The one on one visits, along with the kind words of encouragement from Dr. Bishop have made this a very successful journey for me. Immediately I felt welcomed and relieved to have finally found "The One" that I would suceed on.

I have lost approximately 43lbs and have kept this weight off over the past 2 years, by continuing to follow the valuable lessons learned during the weight loss phase of my visits and most importantly to me, regular weigh-ins to maintain this loss. I re-introduced myself to regular exercise, which has helped me keep my weight down and without a doubt healthy eating has become the rule not the exception.

Good luck.
